Although the name of the “Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance” is to be changed after the federal election in February, the name was just registered as a trademark at the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) under the number 019065825. The corresponding certificate was issued by the office in Alicante, Spain, on November 28, as reported by Bild.
Ralph Suikat, the treasurer of the BSW, explained to the newspaper: “The trademark rights enable us to have better protection against plagiarism, both in terms of unauthorized online appearances and in terms of goods that were put into circulation without our consent and against our will.”
The trademark rights were registered for goods such as shoe wear, headgear, sweatshirts, hooded pullovers, jackets, scarves, T-shirts, jogging pants, greeting cards, calendars, sponsorship searches, and umbrellas.
The BSW already sells some products with the party’s name on an online shop. There are T-shirts, cloth bags, mugs, gym bags, hooded sweatshirts, and hooded jackets.
The German Patent and Trade Mark Office is still processing three further trademark applications from the party, as reported by Bild. On August 7, a lawyer for the BSW filed a request for trademark protection for the party’s logo, the wordmarks “Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice”, and the abbreviation BSW.
