IG Metal Celebrates the Negotiation Result, According to Their Claims, an Agreement Has Been Reached with Volkswagen.

The union announced on Friday evening that a new job guarantee has been achieved, with the possibility of a one-billion-euro payout to employees if no further agreement is reached after the contract expires in 2030, in case of no follow-up agreement.

The planned five percent salary increase for employees in the metal and electrical industry collective agreement will be temporarily suspended at Volkswagen, with the comment that “employees are exercising a temporary sacrifice, preventing a ‘scorched earth’ policy at VW sites and helping each other through solidarity.”

The profit-sharing payment, which was previously around 1,290 euros, will be discontinued, and instead, a bonus of 254 euros for IG Metal members will be introduced in 2027, increasing to 1,271 euros by 2030.

All sites are allegedly secured. For Osnabrück, a “future perspective” is to be developed for the time after the late summer of 2027, a hint at the reported exit of a defense contractor. For Dresden, a “comprehensive concept” is to be developed for the time after 2026, a hint at the reported closure, but the union emphasized that the Volkswagen AG will continue to be present with its own activities at the site in the future.

The IG Metal’s tariff commission unanimously approved the tariff agreement.
