SPD Chief Lars Klingbeil Speaks Out in Favor of Sending Offenders to Syria After the Fall of the Assad Regime
“I think it’s right to deport criminals to countries like Afghanistan and Syria” he told the Funke Media Group newspapers. “Whoever commits a crime loses the right to stay in our country.” However, most migrants have nothing to do with crimes.
Klingbeil criticized attempts to pressure all Syrian refugees to return. “There are refugees who long for nothing more than to go back and help with the reconstruction of their country. We should support these people” he said. “Many others, and that’s a very large number, have become part of our society and help make Germany a strong country.” The party chairman pointed out that 6,000 Syrian doctors work in Germany. “It’s unimaginable if they were to leave our doctor’s offices and hospitals tomorrow.”
Klingbeil called it “embarrassing that some CDU politicians’ first question after the fall of a brutal dictator is when the Syrians will finally leave Germany?” He advised observing closely how the situation in Syria develops after the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
