NATO to Boost Military Presence in the Baltic Sea in Response to Undersea Cable Damage.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced the decision on Friday, citing the repeated damage to an undersea cable as the background. According to Rutte, he discussed the ongoing Finnish-led investigation into possible sabotage acts on undersea cables with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, expressing his full solidarity and support. NATO will strengthen its military presence in the Baltic Sea.

Earlier, Rutte had already spoken with Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, stating his readiness to provide further support. On the first Christmas Day, a disruption was found on the Estlink 2 power cable between Finland and Estonia – the Finns currently suspect a sabotage act.
