Diakonie President Rüdiger Schuch laments the populism in the debate about the citizen’s allowance. “I am filled with concern that the discussion about the citizen’s allowance is being conducted in such a populist manner” he told the “Augsburger Allgemeine”.
“I think it’s dangerous to unleash political strife at the cost of those who already have a hard life” the Federal Agency for Work says that between 14,000 and 16,000 people are not willing to work, but it is suggested that there are hundreds of thousands of people who are making a quiet life with the citizen’s allowance. “That’s not serious” Schuch said.
According to the Diakonie President, “almost all parties” are involved in the “populist discussion about the citizen’s allowance.” In the debate, it is completely overlooked that many citizen’s allowance recipients, although unable to work, engage in volunteer work within their capabilities and thus make a contribution to society. “I also consider a populist-sensationalized discussion unfair” the Diakonie President said.
