Federal Vice President and FDP Vice Chairman Wolfgang Kubicki sees a share of responsibility for the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market in politics and authorities. “If courts have already dealt with this person and their concrete attack fantasies, then one can’t just pretend they’re an ordinary person from next door” Kubicki told the “World” (Friday edition).
“Certainly, this case is particularly complex because it’s about a perpetrator who publicly engages against radical Islam. Nevertheless, it tends towards a state of failure if even current warnings had no security-relevant consequences” the FDP politician said.
Kubicki criticized Federal Interior Minister Faeser (SPD) for her demand for stricter laws. “Every call for harsher laws, especially from the Interior Minister, is therefore completely off the mark and is likely meant to divert attention from her own failure. Minister Faeser must now face very uncomfortable questions. In a rule of law state, there is always someone who takes responsibility for administrative errors. I can’t imagine that such an event will remain without personal consequences.
