The Federal Government’s Victim Support Commissioner, Pascal Kober, estimates that there will be several hundred people in need of help in the aftermath of the recent attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market. “This is one of the largest attacks we have recorded so far” he told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Sunday editions).
“If you include witnesses and first responders, the number of affected people multiplies to a high three-digit figure” he said.
The FDP member of the Bundestag explained: “The experience can be accompanied by great psychological burdens. Those affected should not think they can cope with it on their own. The earlier help is provided, the lower the risk of damage becoming chronic.”
It is hoped that there will be enough places in the trauma ambulance. Initially, it is about making the affected people aware of the possibilities of financial and psychosocial help and bringing the already known concerns to the right places, Kober said. “What’s important is that no concern is left unattended.
