The German Trade Union Federation (DGB) demands a rapid reduction in electricity prices. “Industry urgently needs planning security for electricity costs and relief from rising network charges” said Stefan Körzell to the “New Berlin Editorial Society” (Wednesday’s edition).
In particular, the union has a duty to support a corresponding bill of the federal government. However, CDU faction leader Friedrich Merz recently rejected this in the Bundestag. “The general debate has once again made it clear that Friedrich Merz is underestimating the gravity of the situation” said Körzell. “Hundred thousand jobs are currently at risk, and swift action is needed instead of party games.”
According to Körzell, the “Rest-Ampel” (a coalition) has presented a “solid bill” to limit electricity costs. “The Union’s blockade is completely unjustified and is taking place at the expense of employees.” Cheaper renewable energy is indispensable, “to promote prosperity, employment, and at the same time protect the climate.
