After the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market, an arrest warrant has been issued against the suspect. The investigating magistrate at the Magdeburg district court has ordered pre-trial detention for five counts of murder, multiple attempted murders, and multiple counts of grievous bodily harm, the police announced on Sunday.

The accused was taken to a justice prison accordingly. The 50-year-old driver of the BMW SUV was questioned by the investigative authorities on Saturday. It’s a Saudi Arabian doctor who had already entered Germany in 2006 for the first time. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he also mentioned a possible motive, but this is still the subject of the investigations.

The man drove through the Christmas market on Friday evening and hit numerous people. According to the latest information, there are five fatalities, along with approximately 200 injured, including around 40 severely injured and over 80 people with other serious injuries. The victims include a nine-year-old boy and four women aged 45, 52, 67, and 75.
