'Last Generation' Disbands and Rebrands in Shocking Move

The climate movement “Last Generation” is abandoning its name and plans to completely restructure itself. “We’re leaving the name behind. We’re no longer the Last Generation” said Carla Hinrichs, a spokesperson for the group, to the Spiegel. The corresponding media report was confirmed through official channels of the alliance on social media on Wednesday evening.

“We were the last generation before the tipping points. Today, we can no longer be sure that’s true.” The group will not disband, and protests will still take place. “But blockades in front of cars, airports, and streets are no longer our focus” Hinrichs said. So far, the mantra has been: “Who doesn’t disrupt won’t be heard.” This will change: “We no longer need to fight for every dinner table.”

Something new will emerge from the structures of the Last Generation, Hinrichs said. “We want to establish connections and prepare for the coming crises. It’s about mutual insurance, social justice, and togetherness” she said. “We want to be able to bring thousands of people to the streets in critical moments who stand for a peaceful, democratic system. That requires training.”

On the time so far, Hinrichs said, “We’ve done what we believed in. I can look at myself in the mirror and would always defend what we’ve done.
