Swedish Energy Minister Ebba Busch accuses German Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) of neglecting reality in energy policy and putting prosperity at risk. “It’s hard for an industrial economy to rely on the whims of the weather gods for its prosperity. The dependence on unstable energy sources like wind and sun has proven to be a challenge, as the past week has shown” said the Christian Democrat to Bild (Monday edition).
Busch was reacting to a sudden and drastic increase in electricity prices in many European countries last week due to the total collapse of wind and solar energy.
Busch criticized Habeck for deliberately accepting high prices and losses of prosperity. “Sweden’s government supports renewable energy, but no political will is strong enough to set the laws of physics aside – not even that of Mr. Habeck” Busch told Bild.
In Europe, winter is a predictable and recurring reality, “so it’s strange when politicians wonder at the results of a weather-dependent power system. I’m angry because Germany has continued to prematurely shut down nuclear power plants” said the Swedish Christian Democrat.
