The President of the Association of the German Automobile Industry (VDA), Hildegard Müller, has called on the Union and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) to agree on the planned additional support for electric cars in the German Bundestag before the federal election. “It is now important to review once more whether the particularly important parts of the growth initiative for the industry cannot be passed before the election, for example, in terms of the promotion of e-mobility” Müller told the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday edition).
“The planned special depreciation for newly registered full-electric and comparable zero-emission vehicles, as well as the increase of the ceiling for the net list price in the company car tax for E-cars, can make a significant contribution to reviving the German market for E-cars” the association’s president said.
Furthermore, the use of electric vehicles can also strengthen the used car market for full-electric passenger cars. “That would be an important political signal for consumers, for e-mobility, and for the German automobile industry” she said. If an agreement is not reached, consumers will continue to hold back on buying E-cars, Müller fears.
