CDU to Take a Tougher Stance on Criminal Asylum Seekers After an Election Win
“It’s unbearable that there are people who have been multiple times convicted, yet this has no impact on whether they have to leave the country or not” said CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann to Bild. “After a warning, the right to stay in the country must inevitably cease in the future after the second intentional crime.”
According to Linnemann, the intentional crimes that would lead to deportation should also include offenses like theft and burglary. He plans to change paragraphs 53 and 54 of the Residence Act, so that there would be no more room for discretion for administrative judges. “In the future, it must be clear: whoever commits crimes here has forfeited their right to hospitality and must leave the country. The current regulation, which gives administrative judges a margin of discretion, will be changed” Linnemann said to Bild.
“Whoever is sentenced to imprisonment, regardless of the length or whether it’s on probation, must inevitably lose their right to stay in the country in the future.” Linnemann announced that the deportations of asylum seekers without a residence permit would also have to become “more consistent and faster in the future.” Moreover, there should be more extradition agreements with other countries to deport the criminals, “if necessary, even to third countries.
