Former Federal Interior Minister and FDP Politician Gerhart Baum Criticizes Party Leader Christian Lindner’s Actions
Former German Federal Interior Minister and FDP politician Gerhart Baum has sharply criticized party leader Christian Lindner for his actions in the end of the Ampel coalition.
“The way the Ampel coalition was left, has led to a loss of trust. How Christian Lindner staged the departure, has shocked me” Baum told the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”. “The era of Lindner, as we knew it, is over” he added. The FDP, with its “inflexible adherence to the debt brake” has ended up in a dead end, he said. The problem is that the FDP has become a one-man party, with the party’s fate hanging on a single person.
Baum, however, does not intend to leave the party: “There is a need for a strong liberal party, which, however, must set much stronger priorities on citizens’ rights, curbing the power of digital giants, and climate protection. It must not be a client party for the wealthy.” He wants “to change the FDP, not leave it.
