Germany imported significantly more electricity from abroad in 2024 than it sold to other countries.
According to a report by “Bild” on Monday, citing data from the Federal Network Agency, the country imported nearly 77,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity in this year. In contrast, it exported around 48,500 gigawatt-hours abroad.
As “Bild” further reports, this results in a billion-dollar negative balance. German suppliers had to pay a total of 5.3 billion euros for the electricity imported from abroad. The electricity export generated a total of three billion euros. This results in a negative balance of 2.3 billion euros.
