In the Lower Saxonian Göttingen, the police shot a 35-year-old man on Wednesday evening, who allegedly attacked the officers with a knife. The incident occurred around 5:30 pm in the Geismar district, as the investigators reported late in the evening.
The man, believed to be of a mentally unstable nature, allegedly first attacked a woman for no reason and pushed her. The victim and the perpetrator did not know each other, according to initial information. The Göttingen woman alerted the police from her apartment.
When the first patrol arrived at the scene to take a statement, the man allegedly attacked the officers with a knife and injured one of them in the upper body area. The police officer then fired a fatal shot from his service weapon.
Due to neutrality reasons, further investigations in the case will be transferred to a different police inspection. The identity of this will be clarified, the Göttingen police stated.
