Butter Bonanza: Farmers' President Doesn't Count on a Decline!

The President of the Farmers’ Association, Joachim Rukwied, does not expect a decrease in the price of butter in the near future. Rukwied told the “Rheinische Post” (Friday): “Butter is just a bit like the Dubai chocolate.” He added: “Due to the tight supply on the milk market and the development of milk prices, we do not initially assume a decrease in butter prices.”

Moreover, the milk prices have risen again by two to three percent, according to the President. The price for butter, which was between 2.39 euros and four euros for 250 grams, has reached a record high. Overall, the production costs for foodstuffs have increased significantly, “so farmers also need higher prices to be able to live comfortably” emphasized Rukwied.

“Food is produced in Germany to higher standards than in many other countries. Therefore, domestic products must inevitably have a higher price.” If one “wants more animal welfare, more environment, and nature conservation, one must also be willing to pay more” said the farmers’ president.
