The German states claim they are capable of repatriating many Syrian refugees within a few weeks, once the federal government sets the course. “If the federal government sets the course, we could make repatriations possible as quickly as possible. Those who are obliged to leave must also leave this country” said Hesse’s Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) to Bild (Monday edition).
Thuringia’s Interior Minister Georg Maier (SPD) expressed a similar view: “We would need a few weeks to implement it. That’s manageable quickly” said Maier to Bild. However, a secure situation in Syria is a prerequisite. “If there is further murder and manslaughter in Syria, it won’t work” Maier acknowledged.
Saxony’s Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) is urging a concrete repatriation plan from the federal government. “We have been demanding the deportation of Syrian multiple and serious offenders for a long time and can act immediately. I expect the federal government to present a plan for a uniform federal approach as soon as possible” said Schuster to Bild.
Saxony-Anhalt’s Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) told the newspaper that her state is ready for deportations of Syrians. Specifically, she demands that “offenders should be the first to be considered, and single Syrian men without a job should be the second” must be taken into account.
