CDU’s Friedrich Merz Rejects Meeting with Green Party Leaders
Friedrich Merz, the CDU’s candidate for Chancellor, has declined a meeting with the Green Party’s leadership. “There are no meetings with the Greens, and they are not planned” he told the Rheinische Post (Saturday edition). “The media reports about it were a trick by the Green Party’s top leadership.”
At the same time, Merz stated that he and CSU leader Markus Söder are completely in agreement on how to deal with the Greens. “There will be no continuation of the red-green economic policy with us. A fundamental policy shift is needed in the economic policy.”
According to Merz, the economic policy of Green Party Minister Robert Habeck “has brought us two years of recession and a red traffic light in Europe.” “There can be no more of this. Anyone who doesn’t recognize this is not a coalition partner for us” he said.
