Jimmy Carter’s funeral will reportedly take place on January 9 in Washington D.C., according to the US network CNN, citing the White House. US President Joe Biden has declared the day a national day of mourning.
Carter died on Sunday at the age of 100 in his home in Plains, Georgia, the “Washington Post” reported, citing his son.
The Democrat was elected to the White House in 1976, having previously served as governor of his home state of Georgia. His presidency saw the signing of arms reduction agreements with the Soviet Union and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the US and China. Carter also negotiated the first Camp David Accords, which led to a peace agreement between Egypt and Israel.
