Differing from the SPD, the Union apparently won’t engage in a campaign over the minimum wage height. According to “Rheinische Post”‘s Saturday edition, CDU and CSU in their joint election program do not mention a specific sum for the future minimum wage.
It appears that the Union intends to stick to the principle that the minimum wage commission, comprising employee and employer representatives, will regulate the increase and height of the minimum wage. Sources within the party said they would not deviate from this stance, adding, “We won’t recommend a sum.”
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has announced that, in the event of his re-election, the minimum wage will be increased to 15 euros in 2026. The current minimum wage stands at 12.41 euros and is set to rise to 12.82 euros in January.
