BOMBSHELL: Merz to Win the Next Chancellor?

According to a new survey, 66 percent of Germans believe that Friedrich Merz (CDU) will be the next Chancellor. The survey by Forsa for the “Stern” found that 26 percent do not think so, and eight percent are too uncertain to make a prediction.

CDU and CSU voters are particularly convinced of the success of their chancellor candidate, with 86 percent expecting Merz to become the next head of government. FDP voters also share this view, with 80 percent believing in Merz’s chances. Voters of the Left and AfD are more skeptical, with 65 and 63 percent, respectively, predicting a Merz victory.

Notably, even SPD and Greens voters are majority convinced that Merz will win, and not Olaf Scholz (SPD) or Robert Habeck (Greens). 62 percent of SPD voters and 61 percent of Greens voters expect Merz to become the next head of government.

The data was collected by phone on December 19 and 20, with a basis of 1,004 respondents.
