AfD Chief Tino Chrupalla Criticizes NATO, Suggests Reevaluation of Alliance
Until now, Europe has been forced to implement the interests of America, and we reject that, he said to the Welt.
The NATO is currently not a defense alliance. A defense community must accept and respect the interests of all European countries, including those of Russia. If the NATO cannot ensure that, Germany must consider whether this alliance is still beneficial for us.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Chrupalla said: The German government must finally come to the point of wanting to end the war. Russia has won this war. Reality has caught up with those who claim to be able to empower Ukraine to win the war.
Chrupalla also commented on the AfD’s federal election program. In the federal program committee, he had supported a successful amendment that had the draft for military service removed from the program. Chrupalla said: The draft is and remains in our basic program. It does not belong in the foreground of the current election campaign.
For many voters, the demand in the current discussion would be irritating. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) wants to make Germany “war-ready” which creates the impression that the draft is being reintroduced to send young people to the front in the Ukraine war. “I would definitely not give my sons to the Ukraine” and: “I have a great fear that the federal government could abolish the right to conscientious objection to military service” Chrupalla said.
The AfD chief also spoke out in favor of revoking German citizenship in certain cases. He said to the newspaper: We do not want to expel German citizens. However, in cases of severe offenses, one can very well revoke the German passport, even if a person has dual citizenship. To make this possible in a legally secure manner, the Basic Law does not even need to be changed.
