German hospitals are apparently not prepared for a catastrophe or war scenario. In the event of a large-scale emergency, personnel and coordination deficits threaten, said specialist politicians and top medical experts to the “Tagesspiegel” (Friday edition).
“Our hospitals are on the verge of a time change and are not prepared for a military alliance scenario” said Klaus Holetschek, former Bavarian Health Minister (CSU), to the “Gesundheitsstadt Berlin” and “Tagesspiegel” (Friday edition). “This also applies to the Bundeswehr hospitals. Everything must be put to the test, and the new federal government should immediately focus on the resilience of the clinics. The fact that one is not adequately prepared for possible crises, including military confrontations, large refugee movements, cyberattacks, or terrorist attacks, is also written by the expert council ‘Health and Resilience’, which Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) had set up in March.
Green politician Thomas Götz, who was the Health State Secretary in Berlin and Brandenburg, warned that many places are not well-rehearsed in the event of an emergency. There are looming coordination problems between the states and federal authorities, he said to the newspaper.
A possible attack on the Baltic region is being simulated in security circles. This would be a NATO alliance scenario.
