The number of posts and employees at the Ministry of Defence has increased this year.
As of the cut-off date of 1 April of this year, there were 3,036 posts at the two departmental locations in Bonn and Berlin, according to a statement by Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) to the “Business Insider” portal. By 1 October, the number had risen to 3,068 – an increase of 32. The number of employees also grew, from 3,167 to 3,191. The difference between the number of posts and employees arises because some positions can be part-time.
The result is surprising, as Defence Minister Pistorius had announced a year ago that he would reduce the number of posts by 200. A spokesperson explained that the threat situation for Germany has changed due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. This has led to a significant increase in the tasks and procedures to be performed. Initially, posts were reduced: “However, as a result of increasing work orders, including those due to the security policy developments and the necessary build-up of the Bundeswehr’s capabilities, new posts had to be established over the course of the year 2024.
