Plane Crashes in South Korea, Killing at Least 120

A plane carrying 181 passengers and crew members crashed at a South Korean airport, with at least 120 people confirmed dead, according to the local fire department and rescue teams.

The aircraft, a 15-year-old Boeing 737-800, was operated by Jeju Air and was on a return flight from Bangkok, Thailand, when it crashed during landing at the Munsan International Airport, Yonhap news agency reported.

The plane, which had 175 passengers and six crew members on board, veered off the runway and hit a wall at 9:03 a.m. local time, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport said.

Of the total of 181 people on board, 173 were South Korean, two were Thai, and six were crew members. The fire department has officially confirmed 120 fatalities.

The plane caught fire immediately after the crash, but rescue teams managed to save two people, both crew members, who were pulled out alive, according to media reports.
