German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) warned against disrupting the dialogue in Syria after the fall of the Assad regime. “This Syrian dialogue process must not be torpedoed from the inside or the outside” she said in the Bundestag on Wednesday in a current hour on the situation in Syria.
“One can’t say that often enough in these days. That means, also for Syria’s neighbors, who make their security interests known.” For a lasting peace in the region, Syria’s territorial integrity must not be questioned.
“To put it clearly, a permanent occupation on the Golan offends against international law” Baerbock said in the direction of Israel. “It does not serve the goal of a lasting stabilization of the region, which we all and especially the regions urgently need.” The same applies to the Kurdish region in the north. She will address the issue during a visit to Turkey, Baerbock said.
