Investigators Have Requested an Arrest Warrant for Suspended South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol amid a Short-Term Suspension of Martial Law.
According to Yonhap News on Monday, the investigators have filed a request for an arrest warrant for suspended President Yoon Suk-yeol. This would make him the first serving president to be taken into custody during his term in office.
The request was expected, as Yoon had failed to comply with several summonses for questioning and had also hindered searches of his offices.
Initially, it was unclear whether the relevant court would follow the request. The investigators accuse Yoon of inciting a rebellion and abusing his power when he declared a state of martial law on December 3 and ordered troops to the National Assembly. The arrest warrant was requested due to insurrection and abuse of power.
