CDU’s Young Politician Johannes Volkmann Rejects Black-Green Coalition
Johannes Volkmann, a young politician from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has expressed his opposition to a black-green coalition in the Bundestag. He aims to make the Union as strong as possible in the upcoming election to avoid relying on a “moral majority” with the SPD or the Greens, he told ntv.
“It’s strategically unwise to pin oneself down on someone in advance” Volkmann said, distancing himself from a potential black-green coalition, much like the CSU leader Markus Söder. “I can understand Söder’s position: it’s very hard to imagine working together with the Greens. In the area of migration policy, when it comes to the question of deporting people who illegally enter the country, or in securing Germany’s industrial location in economic policy?” he said. “That’s all quite hard to imagine with the Greens.”
Volkmann, a member of the CDU’s federal executive board and a candidate in the Lahn-Dill constituency in Hesse, also highlighted the relevance of his grandfather Helmut Kohl’s political values today. He mentioned Kohl’s stance on confronting dictatorships, saying, “Many of his political values are more relevant today than ever. When it comes to confronting dictatorships, he was in favor of the NATO double decision in a time when it was unpopular – but the realization was: freedom must always be better armed than those who threaten it. And that’s an insight that’s just as important today as his efforts for European integration.
