Germans spend more than five billion euros annually for dental care services. In 2022, it was 5.15 billion euros, as shown by the numbers of the Federal Statistical Office, which the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance (BSW) requested and which the “Media Group Bavaria” reported on. No figures are available for 2023 yet.
“It’s unacceptable that citizens pay high health insurance premiums, but still have to pay billions for dental care services” said BSW party chair Sahra Wagenknecht to the Media Group. The alliance demands a universal health insurance, in which all would contribute, to distribute costs more fairly.
“We could significantly improve the services of the statutory health insurance and still ensure lower premiums, if only what the majority in the country desires were to happen: a universal health insurance, in which all are compulsorily insured – not just employees and pensioners.” The state of one’s teeth should not depend on one’s wallet, such treatments must be covered by a reasonable insurance, Wagenknecht said.
