Three suspected IS supporters arrested in southwestern Germany for alleged plot to carry out an attack. Authorities stated that the arrests took place on Sunday, and the information was released on Tuesday.
The three suspects, a 15-year-old and a 20-year-old of Lebanese and German descent from Mannheim, and a 22-year-old of Turkish descent from the Hochtaunuskreis in Hesse, were taken into custody by special forces in their respective homes.
According to the investigation, the two brothers had a “firm religious ideology and deep sympathy” for the Islamic State (IS) and had made concrete preparations for an attack. They are believed to have obtained a submachine gun and ammunition, which were found and secured during the operation.
The three suspects were presented to a judge at the Karlsruhe district court in the afternoon and were ordered to be held in custody.
During the searches, a helmet, a tactical vest, several knives, as well as various mobile phones and data storage devices were found and are currently being analyzed in detail. The authorities assured that there was never a concrete threat to the public. The further investigation is still ongoing.
