The SPD’s parliamentary group speaker, Tim Klüssendorf, has welcomed the Greens’ decision to abstain in the vote of confidence for Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). He considers the move “responsible” Klüssendorf told the Handelsblatt (Thursday edition).
The background is that initially, it was expected that the SPD and Greens’ factions would vote for Scholz. However, if the AfD also expresses trust in him, it would create a majority for the Chancellor against his will.
“I consider it a realistic scenario that the AfD will torpedo the initiation of democratic new elections and cause chaos, and the political parties of the center must be prepared for this” Klüssendorf said. The party is “not a serious actor that can be entrusted with the awareness of state political responsibility.” Therefore, the AfD should not even be allowed to influence the further process, Klüssendorf said.
