SPD Leaders Urge CDU, CSU, and FDP to Pass a ‘Relief Package’ for German Citizens and Businesses before Christmas.
The SPD’s top leaders, Lars Klingbeil, Saskia Esken, and Rolf Mützenich, have written to the CDU’s Friedrich Merz, the CSU’s Markus Söder, the CSU’s Alexander Dobrindt, the FDP’s Christian Lindner, and the FDP’s Christian Dürr, urging them to put aside party politics and pass a relief package for the German people and businesses before Christmas.
The proposed measures include stabilizing the economy, securing jobs, reducing energy costs, increasing child benefits, and implementing the law against the cold progression of wages, as well as ensuring the Deutschlandticket. The SPD leaders stress that these measures are not a ploy for electoral gain, but a necessary step to alleviate the burden on families and businesses.
The letter emphasizes the need for a united and decisive approach, stating, “We are willing to jointly and consistently present this decision to the public, even if it leads to a Bundestag dissolution and a new election in February.” The SPD leaders believe that the proposed measures would help millions of people and are ready to be implemented immediately.
The letter also mentions the strengthening of the Federal Constitutional Court’s resilience, which the SPD leaders believe is crucial in the face of threats to democracy.
The SPD leaders conclude by emphasizing that the proposed measures have broad support and that it would be a positive sign for the political culture in Germany if the parties could work together to pass these decisions through the Bundestag.
