Karlsruher SC lost the Southwestern Derby to 1. FC Kaiserslautern 1:3 on the 15th matchday of the 2. Bundesliga.
The home team started the game well and took the lead after around 13 minutes. Boris Tomiak scored the 1:0 from the penalty spot. Prior to that, debutant Enes Zengin, who had only been in the starting lineup due to an injury shortly before kick-off, had fouled Jannik Mause. The visitors seemed to have everything under control, but just before the break, the KSC scored what was thought to be the equalizer. However, Budu Zivzivadze was offside at the moment of Marvin Wanitzek’s pass.
After the break, the Badeners increased their pressure, but the hosts remained active as well. In the 73rd minute, substitute Kenny Prince Redondo finished off a smooth counter attack by the Palatinate team. Just 140 seconds later, Jannis Heuer brought the Betzenberg to life with the 3:0 goal. Wanitzek curled a free kick into the bottom right corner two minutes before the end, but the goal ultimately came too late.
Through the derby win, Lautern at least temporarily moves up to second place. The KSC slips to sixth place and can still fall further down the table in the course of the matchday.
Next Friday, the Karlsruher are hosting SSV Jahn Regensburg at Wildpark, and one day later, the FCK will be the visiting team at Darmstadt’s Böllenfalltor.
The other results from the afternoon: Hannover 96 – SSV Ulm 3:2 and Greuther Fürth – Hertha BSC 2:1.
