Borussia Mönchengladbach played a 1-1 draw at home against Borussia Dortmund in the 13th round of the 1. Bundesliga.
The Fohlenelf barely let the visitors breathe, applying aggressive pressing to minimize their scoring chances. Sabitzer’s attempt in the 6th minute went wide left and was one of the few dangerous BVB actions. In the 42nd minute, Gittens’ goalkeeper Nicolas tested with a powerful long-range shot, but that was it for the first half. No goals were scored, and the teams retreated to the locker room.
After the break, the Seoane-Elf played a bit more offensively, but still focused on defense. However, a solo action by Gittens in the 64th minute brought the lead for the Sahin-Truppe: The Brit simply left Honorat and Scally standing in the penalty area and shot perfectly into the right corner.
The hosts had a quick response in the 71st minute, as Kleindienst’s shot was saved only by a tackle from Groß in the penalty area, and Stöger converted the resulting penalty kick with a shot to the middle.
Later, Hack could have sealed the game in the 81st minute, but Kobel still managed to divert the hard shot of the Joker off the crossbar.
In the 87th minute, Nicolas prevented the BVB from taking the lead again, as he cleared a sharp cross in front of Guirassy.
In the added time, the home team even got a man down when Cvancara, who had just been substituted in, got a yellow card for a foul on Sabitzer and a direct red card for throwing the ball away and getting agitated over a foul decision against him. Shortly after, the game was over.
Dortmund remains fifth, and Gladbach slips to 11th place.
