Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) had a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday evening to discuss the situation and further developments in Syria. This was reported by government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit.

Both parties agreed that the fall of the dictatorial Assad regime is a very positive development. Now, it’s about making sure that Syria becomes a safe home for all Syrians, regardless of their ethnic or religious affiliation. To achieve this, it’s also crucial to preserve the territorial integrity and sovereignty. According to this, they will work together with partners in the European Union as well as the region towards these goals, it was said.
