Starting from January 1, 2025, the Deutsche Post will apply new postal rates for its services. The planned increase in postal and package prices was approved on Wednesday, as announced by the Federal Network Agency.
The standard letter will cost 0.95 euros (previously 0.85 euros) from January, with the compact letter, large letter, and maxi letter increasing to 1.10 euros, 1.80 euros, and 2.90 euros, respectively. The postcard rate will also rise from 0.70 euros to 0.95 euros.
The Päckchen S, Päckchen M, and national packages of up to 2 kg, 2-5 kg, and more will cost 4.19 euros, 5.19 euros, and 6.19 euros, respectively, as of January, up from 3.99 euros, 4.79 euros, and 5.49 euros.
The new postal rates were preceded by the dimensioning procedure, in which the Federal Network Agency determined the scope for adjustments to the Deutsche Post’s postal rates. The scope for price adjustments was based on a general economic inflation rate and a productivity progress rate.
The postal procedure is being conducted for the first time in accordance with the new Postal Act, which now defines three areas for the determination of price adjustment scope: private customer letters, so-called partial services (business post), and private customer packages. The postal procedure is now primarily intended to ensure the financing of a nationwide universal service.
