Caritas President Eva Maria Welskop-Deffaa warned of cuts in the social sector. “The political promise that our social network catches people in crisis before they fall, is becoming brittle” she said to the “Bayern Media Group” (Wednesday edition).
“Savings, as we experience them at the moment, poorly coordinated on all state levels, increasingly question the idea of a reliable and precautionary social state” criticized Welskop-Deffaa. The political promise that the social network catches people in crisis before they fall, is becoming brittle.
Losers are not only the already poor and needy. “Deep cuts in the social sector pose a risk for all people who, after a stroke of fate, could not get back on their feet in our world of multiple crises alone.” If too many doors had to close because of a lack of funds for debt counseling, day care, and youth clubs, “it will get cold and uncomfortable in Germany” explained Welskop-Deffaa.
