The large fire at a Berlin plant of the defense and technology conglomerate Diehl in May was not apparently set on purpose. This is the conclusion of an investigation by the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office, which was concluded after months of investigations and has now been stopped.
It must be assumed that the cause of the fire is an electrical one, the Public Prosecutor’s Office told the “Spiegel”. There are no indications of a premeditated or negligent arson.
Several media had reported that the fire in Berlin was apparently an act of sabotage from Russia. Vague hints to this effect had been received from foreign intelligence agencies by German authorities. This is now contradicted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s decision to drop the investigation.
