The European Union will impose new sanctions on Belarus, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced today.

Addressing journalists in Brussels, the head of the EU said: “We will act with new sanctions against Belarus, because of the role of this country in Russia’s war in Ukraine.”

Von der Leyen also emphasized that the EU will continue to do everything in the power of this institution to support the brave people of Ukraine, and to put pressure on the Kremlin.

This warning comes days after Belarusian opposition leader Pavel Latushko hinted at a possible mobilization to provide military aid to Russia.

In an interview given to the media group Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Latushko said that the employees of the internal affairs bodies of Belarus were forced to surrender their passports.

“This means that in case of mobilization, they will not be able to leave the country”, he added
