Americans start preparations for elections

As the year 2023 approaches, in the United States of America, attention is shifting to next year’s presidential election. Both political parties are starting the new year facing critical issues related to their electorate and the policies they want to pursue.

The challenges facing Republicans are more pressing. They hoped that during this year they would have a secure majority in at least one of the two houses of Congress, but this did not happen.

Meanwhile, at the center of almost all the challenges is former President Donald Trump, who is struggling to strengthen his hold on Republicans as the race for the next presidential election approaches.

However, voters will have other options, such as Governor DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and outgoing Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. Some of them have started asking for donations.

So far, at least, Democrats seem more united than their Republican rivals. But much depends on Joe Biden and whether he will continue to aim to seek a second term. If he abandons his re-election bid and an official announcement is made in a few months, then the Democrats would face an uncertain future, still without any prominent potential candidates.

And while the chances are for a re-election of Mr. Biden in 2024, some Democrats are trying to change his mind.

During the last days, in Georgia, Michigan and South Carolina, a group is running a campaign with the slogan “Joe, don’t run”.
