President Erdogan to Meet with German Officials in Berlin

On January 27, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Berlin. The talks will likely cover a wide range of topics, such as the war between Russia and Ukraine, Turkey’s process of joining the EU, economic ties between Turkey and Germany, and problems that Turkish immigrants in Germany face. Tensions between Turkey and Greece are also likely to be discussed since Chancellor Scholz recently took a stand in favor of Greece while promoting dialogue and Germany as a mediator.

This will be Erdogan’s first trip to Germany since January 2020, when he went to a meeting in Berlin called by former Chancellor Angela Merkel to help the UN and start a lasting ceasefire and political process in Libya.
