Zelensky: Izyum, a turning point in the war

Ukraine

Ukrainian forces are continuing the counteroffensive in the north of the Kharkiv region, and the advances in other parts of the country and the fall of the Russians in the northeast have also been confirmed by Western intelligence agencies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has hailed the Russian withdrawal from the city of Izyum in Kharkiv as a turning point in the sixth month of war.

Zelensky considers that this winter could bring the biggest advancement of Ukraine’s defense forces, if they manage to secure the right weapons.

“In the Kharkiv region, we have begun to advance not only in the direction of the south and east, but also in the direction of the north. We still have 50 kilometers to the border with Russia”, said Valeri Zaluzhni from the General Staff of the Ukrainian army.

The fall of Izyum represents the biggest loss of the Russian army since they were expelled from the Kiev region. Russian soldiers have left behind large quantities of weapons.

The Ukrainians have managed to take control of Kupyansk, the railway station – where, with this action, they have made it difficult for the Russians to travel to the south.

“I think that this winter is the turning point that can bring the liberation of Ukraine. We are seeing how the occupiers are fleeing in different directions. If we were a little more armed, we would be freed faster,” added Zelensky.
