US says Russian forces are withdrawing from Kherson

Experts are divided on whether Russia is indeed planning to withdraw its forces from the city of Kherson.

Moscow’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu made the announcement Wednesday on national television — an unusual move in the midst of a conflict.

But the White House has said there are some signs that Russian forces may be planning to withdraw from the city.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said this does not mean the war is ending and added that Washington is not pressuring Ukraine to engage in negotiations with Russia.
