Ukrainian forces are advancing towards Kherson

War

The new commander of the Russian forces in Ukraine has finally admitted that his troops are under great pressure and that they have been put in a difficult position, after the pro-Russian governor in Kherson announced the partial evacuation of the residents there.

“The situation in the region can be described as tense,” said Sergei Surovikin, the air force general who was appointed in charge of the war in Ukraine.

Surovikin has publicly acknowledged for the first time that there is a great danger from the advance of Ukrainian forces towards the city of Kherson, which lies along the Dnipro River, and that Russia is finding it difficult to supply units in the east because the main bridge over Dnipro has been destroyed by the Ukrainians.

Russia had taken control of most of the city of Kherson in the early days of the Russian occupation of Ukraine, and it remains the only major Ukrainian city that Moscow’s forces took without heavy fighting.

“Our plans and further actions regarding the city of Kherson depend on the military-tactical situation. I repeat – now it’s a very difficult situation,” Surovikin added.

“We will act carefully, at the right moment, but without excluding difficult decisions”, said the Russian commander at the end.
