Three dead after train collision in Croatia

In the railway accident that happened on Friday evening in Croatia, near Novska in the town of Raici, three people lost their lives and 11 people were injured.

The injured were transported to hospitals in Slavonski Brod, Pakrac and Nova Gradiska, the government spokesman announced on Saturday.

The Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, after visiting the site of the accident, said on Saturday that according to the data so far, three people have lost their lives and 11 others have been injured, but that no one’s life is in danger and there is no information about other victims.

“I spoke here with people from the Croatian Ministry of Transport and Railways, they don’t remember an accident like this with a passenger train,” Plenkovic said.

“Since it is a local line, it stops at many stations. The accident happened ten minutes before the final destination. At the moment, we do not have any other information”, he said, answering the question if it is also about immigrants.

There were 13 passengers in the passenger train and one person, the driver, in the stationary train.

The investigation will determine why the train did not stop and how the collision occurred. Croatian Railways also announced the accident.
