The US will not attend G20 meetings.

The United States will not attend the G20 summits that Russia is attending, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the House of Representatives’ Financial Services Committee, Yellen said she had made the position clear to other group finance ministers.

“President Biden’s made clear, and I certainly agree with him, that it cannot be business as usual for Russia in any of the financial institutions,” Yellen said Wednesday.

“He has demanded that Russia be removed from the G20 and I have made it clear to my colleagues in Indonesia that we will not attend a number of meetings if the Russians are there,” she added.

Yellen was referring to a series of upcoming G20 finance ministers’ meetings scheduled for later this month.

Another official said the White House had not ruled out the possibility of US President Joe Biden attending this year’s G20 summit if Russia did. The leaders’ summit is not for another seven months.

Otherwise, the next summit of G20 leaders is scheduled for November in Indonesia.
