The three priorities of Liz Truss as British PM

Liz Truss has said that “together we can weather the storm” as she delivered her first address to the nation as prime minister.

Speaking outside Number 10’s famous black door, Truss paid tribute to Boris Johnson, calling him a “tremendously important Prime Minister”.

“I know we have what it takes to get Britain working again,” she said.

She outlined three priorities – growing the economy with a promise of tax cuts, tackling the energy crisis and improving access to healthcare.

Truss won the race to become the next Tory leader on Monday after defeating her rival, former chancellor Rishi Sunak.

The result meant she would also replace Boris Johnson in No 10 after he announced his departure earlier this summer.

Truss is expected to announce her first ministerial appointments soon.
