The Swedish scientist wins the Nobel Prize for Medicine

Swedish scientist Svante Paabo has won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for his discoveries “regarding the genome of extinct hominins and human evolution,” it was announced by the awarding body.

The prize, one of the most prestigious prizes in the world of science, is given by the Nobel Assembly of the Karolinska Institute of Sweden and has a value of 922,330 euros.

The announcement made earlier in the day is the first for this year’s awards.

Created by the wealthy Swedish inventor and businessman Alfred Nobel, the prizes for achievements in science, literature and peace have been awarded since 1901, although financial compensation began to be awarded as an add-on much later.
