The ‘Hand of God’ ball at auction

The “Hand of God” ball, one of the most famous moments in football history, will be auctioned next month.

Handballing the ball without the referee seeing it, Diego Armando Maradona scored the goal through which Argentina eliminated England in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

The same hand then lifted the trophy at the end of the tournament.

The Tunisian match referee kept the ball for 36 years and has now decided to auction it in London with a value ranging from 2.8 to 3.4 million dollars.

The ball is not the only match item to be auctioned. Maradona’s number 10 shirt sold last May for over $8 million, a new world record for sports memorabilia.
